My discourse on the benefits of eating breakfast left Declan skeptical.

Maybe I’ll eat it, maybe I won’t... either way I have to think about it first

I’m hiding. If I can’t see the food, then they can’t make me eat it :-)

Not the best photo (it was dark and just before bed time), but here’s the height chart we bought for Declan today. We’d been keeping an eye out for one and this one was perfect. It came as three big stickers (which I didn’t realize at the time) so we decided that his bedroom door was the best place for it. There are also a dozen little shield stickers that you use to record the measurements - but I’m sure a pen will work just fine when they run out :-)

It was bound to happen eventually... Declan got a hold of one of Lynette’s permanent markers and “decorated” one of his chairs.

You can’t be mad though, especially with this look on his face :-) At 20 months he’s not going to understand the difference between this and the Aqua-doodle (a water-based drawing set where the “ink” disappears when it dries) we use with him.

So we just told him we thought it was a wonderful drawing and quickly substituted the water pen for the one he had. The funny thing is that even though we didn’t punish him, he will only sit on the non-decorated chair now...

The first snow of the season arrived today. Hooray!

I’m hoping for plenty more so I can finally build the igloo I’ve been talking about for the last few years. I even found a book with some handy tips - so I’m all set and just need enough snow to make the blocks.

Declan was wrapped too, staring out of the bedroom windows for ages (I guess he was too young to remember the little we had last year), until we finally dragged him downstairs for breakfast and outside to test out his new snow suit, which has plenty of “growing room” (parent-speak for: oops - we bought the wrong size). He looks pretty cute in it though, and it has some nice features like fingerless gloves built into the sleeves. With luck we might even get two seasons out of it :-)

This last one is a frosty sunrise from a few days earlier.

Working Bee

The veggie patch hasn’t seen a lot of action this year and the weeds pretty much took over. So we teamed up with the neighbors (who had a similar problem on their side) to hire a rotary hoe for the day to clean it up before the snow arrived.

Before and during... alas I forgot to take an “after” shot and now its covered in snow :-)

A Day at the Zoo

Declan's first trip to the zoo was a big hit. As a special treat he got a stuffed snake (which he wears as a scarf) and and an ape (which he thinks is Nana and Opa's dog from webcam).
